It is a profoundly moving thing to see someone who I do not know engage with my work with such vulnerability and openness. Perfume is such an intensely connective, misunderstood, arresting, and largely overlooked artform. I’m so grateful that I get to call it my work.

I fully appreciate that National Review’s primary audience doesn’t know who Arendt is. And I understand why any group of conservative hacks would go out of their way to ensure their followers never read her work.

But this lede is still one of the most batshit bits of writing I’ve read all year.
