I use this account for things I can't say. (A reference to the Paul Graham essay http://paulgraham.com/say.html)

If the booster is needed, then propellant is 4,600 tons. So unless methane is much cheaper than jet fuel, it’ll only be economical for limited applications (military, heads of state, emergency aid, etc).

A 787’s payload is ≈50 tons & it burns 100 tons of fuel & 300 tons of atmospheric oxygen. Starship’s payload is ≈150 tons & it burns 1200 tons of propellant (methane & oxygen). So assuming no booster, emissions are similar. And unlike jets it produces no nitrogen oxides.

Tap on any of the three gray dots to see those cameras.

It doesn’t show them by default but you can tap to see them on both the screen and the phone app. You can also do this for the cabin camera.

I think you’re thinking of an older version of sentry mode that didn’t show the front facing side cameras.

Like any other form of insurance it's negative expected value but worth it if you can't afford to pay for a catastrophe.

Teslas record everything around them so the owner will have a video clip of you. Depending on their sentry mode settings they might even get an alert on their phone.

SEAT used this setup on their cars for a while and it seemed to work fine. The advantage is that it improves aerodynamic efficiency. And unlike most vehicles, the Cybertruck has no gap between the hood and the windshield, so there's no place for leaves to accumulate.

You can. This bill amends the law to allow former employees to request this info, not just current employees. It also sets a hard deadline (21 days instead of "a reasonable period of time") and allows the employee to sue (rather than only letting the state enforce it).

Unfortunately, Washington doesn’t pass the “no bad laws” checkbox anymore. The state peaked in 2012 when we legalized gay marriage, recreational marijuana, & charter schools.

20 wolves lack the genetic diversity need to repopulate. You'd need hundreds of wolves. So it's a matter of when wolves are gone from Belgium, not if.

I think everyone who was out that night was irresponsible to the point of idiocy, especially the protestors. I wouldn't be out there unless I owned a business that was in danger of getting looted or vandalized. But then yes, I would be armed to the teeth along with my friends.

Hard to say which term is more accurate. In testimony, Rittenhouse said Black bought the rifle for him & that Black was to give it to him when he turned 18. Black was popped for intent to sell a dangerous weapon to a minor & pled down to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The original story has been updated saying it’s not clear if it’s true. I’d bet against it being true, as only a few people would know the total budget. If the real number got leaked, they’d know who leaked it. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...
Bezos and Sanchez deny claims they will marry this week in Aspen

It’s not about pride. It’s about which policy reduces overall harm. If some prisoners continue to do violence to others, then by not killing them, you are endangering innocent people. It’s the same logic used to justify killing in defense of yourself or others. (Which is legal in every US state.)

Absolutist thinking isn't very effective. You could say the same of children drowning but banning pools isn't going to fly.

Effective policy prioritizes the largest causes of harm that have a known solution & an effective means of implementing said solution. In the US, guns aren't in that category.

NYT photographer Doug Mills captured one of the bullets in flight. It probably grazed his ear. No teleprompters were hit.

Members of the John Brown Gun Club do that sort of thing. They rarely get on the news, but they'll sometimes be in videos that go viral on social media.

That's not how silencers work. If the bullet hits the baffles it will damage the silencer, make lots of noise, & ruin accuracy. Also the bullet striking anything downrange will mess the shape up much more.
December 24, 2024 at 1:27 AM
Reducing noise pollution & hearing damage. Most ammo is supersonic, so you'll still get a loud crack that causes hearing damage. Subsonics are quieter but the action cycling can be pretty noisy, especially for the shooter. The only truly hearing safe setup I've used was a suppressed bolt action .22.

I think we both recognize the tradeoff, but disagree about the relative benefits & harms. What would change your mind about this? I'd change my mind if I thought the rate of innocent people being executed was higher (I know it's not zero), or if the rate of prisoners committing murder was lower.
December 24, 2024 at 12:44 AM
Several of these people were on death row for murdering other prisoners or putting hits on people outside of prison. Since they’re still a danger, why shouldn’t they be executed?

One example: Straw purchases. A lot of girlfriends buy guns for their boyfriends who are prohibited possessors (due to previous criminal convictions). They are rarely charged despite being a large source of firearms for violent criminals.
