I worry I forgot how social media like this works.

Anyway. Hi!

Hope you’re having a great day.
This Sonder collapse is the sort of stuff my fledgling little business helps head off.

There was likely some very over-their-heads product and engineering folks involved in this and I feel for them.

Wish I could have helped.

Hiya from Ypsilanti for Stop 43 in my quest to see a game at every FBS college.

Will try to channel my inner @sickoscommittee.org and last longer than a quarter.

I wrote about this bullshit once already and I don’t feel like editing it to say that Tylenol doesn’t cause autism, either.

Chris Vannoy | Hey, RFK, Jr.: Go fuck yourself.
I’m the proud parent of two kids on the Autism spectrum. I love my kids. I love them as they are. I love the way they think. I love being a part of their lives. And Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. can go fuck ...

So far today:

- Meal planned and groceries
- Replaced the flow valve in the kids’ toilet (daughter helped)
- Making sheet pan pizza
- Been vibe coding a new version of an app I built nearly a decade ago

Been a fun day.

🧵 Writing code has always been the easy part of software engineering. With AI tools transforming the field, traditional coding challenges (LeetCode, whiteboard tests) are becoming even more useless than before. Time for a better approach to vetting engineers.

Vetting software engineering candidates has always been broken - AI's just exposing that breakage at a rapid pace.

I created a better way years ago - inspired by elementary school, that's even better for the AI age: Show and Tell.

Show and Tell: A better way to vet software engineers - Axiomatic
Writing code has always been the easy part of a software engineering job. This has always been true, but it’s becoming more and more true as AI-based tools transform software engineering. This also me...

“Forward Deployed Engineer” is bullshit for “consultant.”

Like, at first I thought it was going to be a “get your engineers involved earlier in the process”, before being disappointed that it’s just AI-bro for consulting.

Indiana: Sugar Cream Pie. Like, why eat an unflavored sweet soup in a sopping crust?

Everywhere else: Cherry Pie.
what's a traditional food of your people/culture that everyone else seems to love that you absolutely cannot stand?

for me it is vada pav. Vada is incredible, pav is fantastic, in combination they cancel each other out and become a black hole of anti-taste

I ran a half marathon yesterday - the Indy Mini.

I’m proud of the accomplishment, but find more value to know what I want out of running.

I run for fitness and fun, not for distance accomplishments.

I don’t need to run more than 10 miles again.

5k, 10k races are lighter and more fun for me.

I’ve been doing a thing over on LinkedIn each Monday where I go for a stroll and blather about a mental health topic for a minute or so.

Today’s topic: Success.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

Not familiar with the work, but that seems ominous as far as this goes.
Back to the Future for me. Lol. Surely true but not very helpful.

Travel motto I picked up on my last trip:

There are no bad experiences, just good stories.

In other words, bad travel experiences tend to make for the best stories later on. Focus on the stories, not the shitiness, and you’ll have a better time.

I have met chaos.

It’s the New Jersey Transit Terminal at Penn Station.

To be honest, I’ve been struggling mentally for a while.

- New business doing typical new business peaks and valleys
- Waves arms at the state of the world
- Typical year-end crescendo of stress

Going to try and spend the waning days of 2024 resting and recharging.

Starting … now!

Software engineers solve problems for a living.

If you don’t give them interesting problems and leave them bored, they’ll manufacture their own.

Then you end up with Kubernetes, React, things of that nature.

And that’s the _best_ case.

I just want WVU to go into the last game of the season still in the hunt for the Big 12 title game!

Home after Stop 39 on my quest to see a game at every FBS school.

And it was a fun one! 41-38 Oregon State to win the Pac-2 championship over Washington State.

Beav fans were super friendly, Corvallis is a fun town, and I love the sound of chainsaws now.

Big day today!

I’ve been devoting time every week to writing, sometimes for the blog and sometimes for books and courses.

Today, I finally released the first of those books: a guide to managing outsourced software development.

Going to be attending Washington State at Oregon State this weekend.

Looks like I might have a couple of hours pregame in either Portland or Corvallis on the off chance somebody here wants me to swing by (or has a tailgate I can crash).

So, was I right about Friday? Was it awesome for ya?

I’m sitting here in Hinkle Fieldhouse, soaking in the atmosphere.

Not a bad end to my Friday.

Hope your’s was great, too.
