Here’s what Kelly’s poor ear looks like now after his last day outdoors fighting with another cat.

He’s been on kitty Prozac for three days. He’s still eating well, but I’m concerned by how inert he is. I’m going to talk to the vet about reducing the dosage. I don’t want a zombie cat.

Tilly Long-body. You would not believe how much this little cat can eat. She wants food constantly.

We had a visitor last night. A small Northwestern Black Bear! They didn't stay long. They're pretty shy.

The two latest additions to my fridge magnets. I picked the up in Asheville, NC.

Ozzy laid down next to Tilly and began licking her head. It was adorable. Ozzy is the only inside cat that wants to be friends with her. Obi was friends with her when she was outside and she loves to see him when he comes inside for a minute.

Also, have some Tilly toe beans.

It’s stag party season in the neighborhood. The boys have been showing up regularly, including a handsome 5-pointer still with velvet on his antlers. There’s another one with single spikes that likes to drink from the big birdbath.

Randy planted some iceplant with orange flowers between the cacti, and it’s coming along nicely. It wasn’t too healthy when I got it from the nursery, but Randy has a talent for saving plants. Versus my talent for killing them. Henh.

Obi is offended that I find his little fat belly so amusing.

Mama doe and the twin fawns show up maybe once a week. One of the fawns still has all their spots while the other one only has them on the hindquarters.

The Flying Saucer cactus flowers are as fleeting as they are spectacular. This is what they looked like the very next day, after a single day of flowering. Now they’ve dried up and fallen off.

I wasn’t able to post these pics yesterday because of my computer problems. By Saturday morning, the Flying Saucer cactus flowers were fully open and it was a glorious sight.

The progression of the Flying Saucer cactus flowers from this morning to this evening. The flowers are just starting to open. By tomorrow morning, they should be in their full glory.

Mama doe, the one with the twin fawns, has been coming into the yard to drink from the granite bowl.

Late last night, we had another visitor to the granite bowl. The skunk came around, clambered up on the boards, and had a nice drink. It’s a popular watering hole.

The weird alien cactus flowers are growing rapidly now.

A type of succulent called hens & chicks.
A large cluster of a succulent known as hens and chicks. They form tightly-packed rosettes of thick green leaves with some shading into a dark red. This large cluster is hemmed in with light-colored decorative rocks. Smaller hens and chicks sprout around the outer edges of the large cluster, which is typical of how they spread.

Had the pleasure of watching some baby birds grow up and fly away.
Close on a birdhouse that is shaped and painted like a cactus with three bright pink flowers and the word “welcome” at the bottom. There is a round hole in the center. Two baby birds with yellow mouths poke their heads out, along with some sticks that are part of the nesting material.

I’m so pleased to see the protests huge and small across the country and even other countries. The Felon won’t give a shit, but that isn’t really the point. Resistance, standing up, and making our voices heard is the point, and we sure as hell did that.

Here was my new protest sign for the day.

Obi flashed me the Belly of Doom. His look says, “Go ahead, I dare ya.” I am not so easily led into the belly-trap. My hands are intact and no blood has been shed. Today.

I was premature. Not only was the Flying Saucer cactus flower still there this morning, it had opened fully, displaying even more of its alien glory.

The yellow stamens have spread out into a circle with pale chartreuse pistils (I’m guessing at this plant part). Deep inside the cluster of pistils in an insect of some kind. One of the Flying Saucer cactus flowers is coming along more quickly than the others. It’s well named because it sure looks like something alien.
