In #rstats, one does cut(values,breaks=c(min_value, V1,V2..,Vn,max_value),include.lowest=TRUE) to create categorical features out of continuous values.
In #perl invoke vsearch_sample ($values,$breaks), but omit the min_value from $breaks to achieve the same effect #perldatalanguage #pdl […]

Give me open access biological data to hoard for my 30TB RAID array at home.
I just finished the ENSEMBL mysql dumps (about 750GB compressed - now have to set up the mysql around 2.7TB).

GOOOOOO

If LLMs were understood as they are ie a vector database that is searched probabilistically via levelled up Bloom filters then we would have made them more energy/compute efficient even running on the edge. Stripped of the corpo hype we could even make them ethical & useful

Sometimes one has to peek under the hood or inside the black box .

How I fixed the surprisingly slow speed of the percentile function in Perl Data Language in #perl (no C)

Nothing beats #perl for not disallowed data hoarding!
I may be able to finish the download of the #mysql view of Ensembl release 115 with nothing but 300 lines of #perltidy nicely formatted #Perl code.
I had not done any web automation stuff in decades but I rebounded quickly.

The most interesting statement in that very long , information poor email is the admission that MIS-C would weigh in the decision to approve a pediatric #COVID19 vaccine.
But MIS-C is just the subacute form of the persistence related subtype of longcovid so what gives?

One look at the r/DataHoarder and I am surfing Seagate's data store, because setting a 32TB RAID at home and a 120TB one at work is not enough

I am a Bayesian but for the most part I don't mind p-values because for the common models applied in biomedicine, one can carry out a Bayesian calculation (we call those π - values with @AndrewPGrieve ) that are noncontroversial directional measures of effect

I just found out that one can get rid of ai slop summary in Google search by appending -ai at the end of the search string.

Seems performance degradation is in the air.

Deliberately rebuilding a 28TB RAID5 (4 X 7.2 TB HDD) to benchmark the process... it will take roughly 27 hours but will be enjoying the colors in the meantime.

(Yes, I know that my cable management sucks, this is why I didn't become a surgeon or a proceduralist)

As it happened with the banks in 2008, the peasants will have to bail the circular financing AI bubble actors out, even if the botlicking governments have to mandate that everyone (including the unborn) are given 3 bot accounts & paid by posttax statutory paycheck deductions.

Forget JSON, TOON, and VSC! The VST (Values Separated by Tabs), retains all the advantages of the VSC but brings the Pythonic esthetics to the table; a format that was stolen from the LLM gods and gifted to humans by the Prometheus (PROMpting the ETHEr for sUbStance) of the human founder spirit.

This piece resonated with me!

👀#Perl is a messy, maddening programming language, the “duct tape of the internet.”

✊But at least you can tell it was made by humans.

🙏Still, I find myself returning to this strange language, and I think it’s because of the humility at its core […]
