I’m a pc gamer and was gonna get a steam deck 2 to have a mobile device and let my 7 yo son use it as his “console” but now I may get this instead for him.

Steam library sharing makes it a lot cheaper than him getting, say, a ps5 and needing to start buying so many games.

It’s a good feeling indeed!

Congrats!

One time in Charlotte, like 25 years ago, some kid-(me)-filed through the fence bordering his high school parking lot so he didn’t have to walk around it. That same kid used to skip seventh period and get an icee from Target.

So yea it’s crime infested.

I grew up in Charlotte and only live a few hours away.

The only thing to fear is that a single road changes names four times or the intersection of Kings and Queens has you changing roads going g straight through it in any direction.

I actually did IB Latin 25 years ago in high school, but I don’t exactly remember what was on the exam, if I’m being honest, nor do I remember how I did.

I don’t actually like doing AP Latin, all that much, but I know that my program wouldn’t attract as many students without AP, so here I am

Give me a list of words you’ll gloss & a list of grammar + rhetorical devices to cover.

The whole exam should be sight passages. Give students some Latin that uses those words/grammar concepts and ask them questions about them.

Now I can just spend a semester doing Latin. My choice and pace.

It’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played. My wife and I have 500+ hours between the two of us and we’re still not done with it.

True. I did not properly extol its contribution to our society.

And it’s too bad really: I wish a tool like this didn’t have so many deleterious effects. I could get a lot of use out of it for making vocabulary lists from a given text, or other tasks that require no thought, but do take time.

Our school is also a big fan, having us create a ChatGPT account for our beginning of school meeting, and offering PD on how to use it in the classroom.

No thanks, I don't need to incorporate a plagiarism machine that kills the planet into my lessons.

I bought it and put like 60 hours into it very quickly. It’s a ton of fun.

I noticed the same thing!

And forgive my lack of initial reading comprehension (great that I’m a language teacher, eh?!), but thanks so much for your order!

The scientist? The dude was a monster!

I did get some offbrand Lego with department money before: I have a brick built model of the Roman forum, and another of Pompeii that my students and I built together.

But that’s just part of my standard course of study for AP Latin, as far as I’m concerned. Something something visual learners!

I hope it's of some utility; he's by far my favorite author to read with my students!

I've already got them asking if they can buy my Martial commentary for an A, and I'm like 'don't even joke about that!'

But yes, is a collection from students considered...not, um, ok? lol

My course is in the Spring, so I haven't started with my students yet, but I do shorter authentic Latin in all levels of my course, and we've done some Pliny they really enjoyed, particularly a trio of letters where he complains no one is writing him back.

But for real: Caesar was terrible.

Defense attorney: “ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I stand before you and ask ‘What the fuck are we doing here?’”
November 5, 2025 at 2:34 AM
Oh my god. Well done.

Thanks for the rec! This will be good to read after I finally finish your “Strike”.

I love a good chiasmus in rhetoric!
