The responses to observations of "you didn't have this concern when it was a dude going to school" or "maybe the guy wants to be a homemaker" just reiterated that their bottom line is - misogyny and strict gender roles are the only acceptable way to exist - despite the misery of all involved

Exactly this. Once questions happen, it all just breaks down and ends in... well I just think you should be home with the children 🤢 or its close relative... are you sure that won't be too hard with all your other responsibilities?

Probably. Though I will say that I have gotten pretty intense pushback from people *with* advanced degrees when I was pursuing academia outside of acceptable women dominated careers. Pursuing Masters in Social Work = nice job! Pursuing STEM degree = BOOO!
