For sure, it's a big creative swing, and not everyone would like it. But I'd argue it's better than leaving the two halves of your show unbalanced, with the character who was obviously the heart of the past timeline (and until now, the adult one) blipping out of the plot with so few ripple effects.

For all other scenes following, we can interpret that the other adult Yellowjackets are seeing Natalie as the moral center she always was in the wilderness. A result of self-hatred and regret for the fact that *they* never stepped up like she did, and she's still not letting the trauma win.

Depends on the woman. There were some female educators at my school that would have made the whole in-group hierarchy thing muuuuuch worse. Think "Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" but with cannibalistic cultism
