The Christmas sausages have arrived at our village butcher. Let the festivities begin.
Neat rows of packaged sausages under a glass counter. From left to right, there are salami and thin meatloaf slices packed in transparent plastic, then sausage-shaped packages in bright orange with a colourful illustration of two dancing children and the words, „Fleischwurst für Kinder“ in red italic writing. Next to these are individual salamis the same size as the orange ones but this time wrapped in gold plastic decorated with sprigs of holly and Father Christmas; and lastly is pink spreadable raw minced pork and onions, again in a sausage shape, wrapped in clear plastic with „Frische Zwiebel Mettwurst“ written on them in blue italics. These are all stacked together in one metal tray.

Please may I contribute two more German potato cookbooks to the thread? Delicious Potato Dishes (favourite chapter title: Potatoes Like Swimming in Fat) and the potatoes volume of the Culinary Delicacies series, which has a terrific chapter on potatoes in culture, art and literature.
A German cookbook called Reizvolle Kartoffel Gerichte. It has a yellow border and photograph of a potato gratin on the front and it’s sitting on a pale grey kitchen counter. A page of a cookbook - the one described in the previous image - written in German and entitled Kartoffeln schwimmen gern in Fett. There are two recipes for chips on the page in black and white ink, and an illustration of chips being made using some kind of manual chip-cutting utensil. An olive green hardback German cookbook called Kulinarische Köstlichkeiten / Kartoffel. It has a very 1980s photograph of an arrangement of potato dishes on it. The book is lying on a pale grey kitchen counter. The first page of a German cookbook chapter (from the cookbook described in the previous image) entitled Die Kartoffel in Kult, Kunst und Literatur. It has a photo of a potato-shaped earthenware jar against a mustard yellow background.

Some absolute monster radishes in our veg box delivery today.
Close up on the inside of a green plastic crate, the bottom of which is lined with white paper. The crate has in it (as visible in the picture) three red apples, two pears, seven carrots with their tops taken off and six huge red radishes. Two of them, balanced on the pears, are about the size and shape of two medium-sized narrow sweet potatoes. White fingers holding up a very large, pinkish-red radish the size of a sweet potato. In the background is the green crate with fruit and veg in as described in the previous picture.

Hi Chip! This is Molly. She is having a(nother) incredibly stressful day.
A grey-brown and black striped cat curled up on a floor cushion. She has one front paw outstretched and the other curled up, and her head is upside down and showing the white underside of her chin. She could not be any more relaxed if she tried.

Big fan of these standing tables at the Christmas market though.
Two barrels with tabletops resting on them. Behind them, facing these barrel tables, are two thin but life-sized cows–one brown and white, one black and white–with shelves on their sides for putting food and drinks on. All of this is on a cobbled area in front of a rustic Christmas market stand.

I see Worms is giving Oxford Street a run for its money again this year.
A small, bushy and not very Christmas tree-shaped Christmas tree tied to a lamppost on a pedestrianised shopping street. It has large gold bows rather haphazardly attached to some of its branches.

Morning all. The skies have cleared, the paths are muddy and covered in leaves, it’s 2 degrees and our heating’s gone wrong (annual tradition). Would love to see what it looks like where you are?
A view straight down between two rows of almost completely bare vines. The ground is very green and lush and grassy, the sky is a hazy grey-blue and partially clear, with a thick dark grey band of cloud on the horizon. At the very end of the two vines, where they almost meet in the distance, is one of those tall wooden structures used by hunters for shooting deer. A cobbled winding path full of yellow leaves flanked by two steep banks covered in various bushes and more yellow leaves. There are tall spindly mostly-naked trees obscuring the sky, which is cloudy with small patches of bright blue.

It’s forecast to be wet and miserable again today and snowing by the end of the week, so here’s a throwback to the last time the sun came out two and a half weeks ago.

It took me 7 years of regularly trying it to properly enjoy eating Handkäse. Hand-formed sour cow milk cheese from southern Hessen, Germany, traditionally served with oil, vinegar, chopped onions and caraway seeds. Pungent is not the word.

Today I learned of the existence of the mini kiwi. Small, fuzz-free and mild in flavour - though Google tells me they should be acidic and sweet. These ones are from Baden-Württemberg. Immediately tempted to buy myself a plant for the garden.

Hello there, all other people on here. I shall move on to niche German food tweets in due course, but a picture of a cat - the very best cat - feels like a fairly solid way to begin.
A tabby cat curled up on an old chair upholstered in very similar colours. The cat is half upside down with its legs hanging off the seat, but she’s fast asleep and looks incredibly comfortable.
