I've always liked a good 'Sanctus.' Here's one I prepared earlier.... 😀

What makes the music of Welsh composer William Mathias so compelling? I try to answer that question by exploring a school song he wrote (and I sang!) whilst attending Whitland Grammar School at the tender age of 11.

Another little piece performed by the brilliant choir of St. James's Church, Sussex Gardens, conducted by George de Voil. Just 3 short minutes, if you have time ;-) youtu.be/_YH3QwBlbOI?...

An absolutely fabulous afternoon recording some bits and pieces with the small but perfectly formed Choir of St James's Church, Sussex Gardens. Such a talented bunch of people. And a privilege to work with them!

Acousmatic listening is not recommended here. I wasn't sure if I was going to watch the whole video at first, but in the end I couldn't stop myself – this is a kind of entertainment. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtEG...

Impuls Day 2. A huge bravo to Chaos String Quartet! What an incredible programme with a subtle but dynamic performance!

Curse the inventor of mobile phones and all those who use them during concerts.

Finally got round to finishing 'Dogfight!', the second piece in my 'History of Powered Flight Collection,' a sort of homage to the fun wind band pieces I was brought up on as a young player. Computer mock-up for the moment. Approach with caution. :-) youtu.be/Gc5rbLNxrnM

I had world class tuition at this Music School. It is a crime that Cardiff University is trying to close it. Please do take a look at this petition if you have a moment.
Please consider signing. I know petitions are not enough, but they are not necessarily nothing either. At the very least, helping our colleagues know the depth and breadth of support will be something. chng.it/DXBH5N6v4f

At a time when my old University Music Department in Cardiff is threatened with closure it’s nice to come to a student concert here in Kunst-Universität Graz, Austria. Amazing standard of music making in a challenging programme.

This is incomprehensible and rage inducing news from Cardiff. Thinking of all the staff in Cardiff, especially some of my brilliant teachers in the Music Department.
[reposted] The storm has broken at Cardiff University. Solidarity to everyone who is going to be affected by leaving the university, or by remaining as part of a substantially weakened workforce. Please join a union.

So sad this evening to hear the news about Elgar Howarth. A fantastic player, conductor and composer, not to mention a massive inspiration to young musicians. Such fond memories of NYOW courses with him. Here are a few pictures of him back in the day...

Brilliant evening in Gelsenkirchen watching Saariaho’s opera ‘Innocence’ with Chorwerk Ruhr and Oper Leipzig. I’m emotionally drained…

Was wondering @orenambarchi.bsky.social whether it might be possible to see a score of your brilliant 'Sous Vide', which I heard in Brussels last year? I'm trying to understand how you put together this improvisational piece. Would that be possible?

Ah. No Elon in my timeline. I think I might like it here…
