I’m not saying these two things are the same. I’m not saying they have the same weight or impact on society even. The point of the comparison is both of these things caused a lot if right wing Christian Nationalists to pressure and threaten the publisher in an attempt to deplatform artists.

This is what DC Comics had to say about cancelling Red Hood. Gretchen’s two posts are jokes, I wouldn’t consider them as “promoting violence” personally, but that’s a matter of opinion. The Captain America cover, however, I would argue is literally promoting violence and hostility. On purpose.

This is what DC Comics had to say about cancelling Red Hood. Gretchen’s two posts are jokes, I wouldn’t consider them as “promoting violence” personally, but that’s a matter of opinion. The Captain America cover, however, I would argue is literally promoting violence and hostility. On purpose.
When news broke that Charlie died, these people’s immediate response was to incite violence against anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Off color jokes about a Christian nationalist dying are not violent. What MAGA is doing is violent and will cause violence.

Jack didn’t back down, he even told the people calling to meet him downstairs to talk to him face to face. They, of course, never did.

Timely Comics (pre-Marvel) used to receive calls and pressure to cancel their anti-fascist books and fire their creators, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon specifically would receive death threats at their office for anti-fascist stories and artwork.
