One of the ordinary acceptable outfit choices in 1984 for an upper middle-class high-school guy:
-Pink button-down oxford, usually untucked (blue was more common, but pink was a solid alternate)
-Levi's 501s
-Topsiders
-Ray-Bans (or cat's eye Vuarnets)
By 1990, a pink oxford was no longer ordinary.

After chits we graduated to "low impact" dice that came with a crayon to color in the numbers.
Here's a picture of a set, but I recall getting mine in a boxed set. This was 40+ years ago so I might be mistaken.

Way back in the olden days, D&D really did come with chits to cut out and use if you didn't have dice.
