Today is about remembrance, but it is also about saying that we cannot lose any more lives to hatred and discrimination. As an elected official and Chair of the City's 2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, I am committed to addressing systemic transphobia, which has no place in the City of Toronto.

Today's ceremony felt especially heavy as news that horrific anti-trans legislation is moving forward in Alberta came down earlier this week. These bills will put countless trans youth at risk by preventing them from living authentically and are a blatant infringement on Charter rights.

The idea to beautify garbage bins in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood was proposed as a Participatory Budgeting project in 2023, and through collaboration with Steps Public Art, the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association, and the Old Town Toronto BIA it's now a reality! 🎉
