These are important points. For example, the need for coordinated and effective institutions and other elements of state capacity are a centerpiece of the audits SAIs are doing on the SDGs. UN DESA’s forthcoming 2025 World Public Sector Report elaborates on this.

Great thanks to @intosaijournal.bsky.social for all the reporting and updates this week. However, Jessica somehow neglected to post that *her* report to the Congress on the Journal’s activities and plans received the highest praise for all of her impressive accomplishments.

On my way. Looking forward to participating in the UN DESA panel on the release of the 2025 World Public Sector Report on the role of SAIs in assessing implementation of the SDGs. (The report is excellent).

Thank you. This is an amazing service you do for all us—especially for the non-scholars. Incredibly valuable and appreciated.

Yes. A congressional commission (generally, the bi-partisan House and Senate leadership) sends at least 3 names to Pres. Pres picks from that (or asks for more). After that, goes to Senate for confirmation.

I spent my entire GAO career working closely with IGs. Everything Chris Piper says about the value and importance of the IGs is spot on.

Broken record here, but we need to keep an eye on the appointment of the next Comptroller General—the head of the GAO. The current CG’s 15(!) year term ends in December. The wrong pick means lights out for federal oversight and accountability. The IG firings are huge red flags.

The Trump administration opened a slew of official government accounts on BlueSky today. The day before a nation-wide anti-Trump protest.

Flew today from Washington Dulles to Syracuse. No problem at all. I said to the TSA officer, as a retired fed, I especially appreciated her work today. She seemed genuinely moved to be thanked for the sacrifices they are making.
