We must insist on transparency, verified facts, and accountability, not shifting standards or narratives that change depending on who is involved. Justice requires calm, clarity, and truth, not escalation.

If that is confirmed, we should all be asking hard questions about why, in this instance, that right was seemingly reinterpreted as a justification for lethal force and rhetoric labeling someone a “domestic terrorist.”

It is also being reported that Alex may have been legally exercising his Second Amendment right to concealed carry, a right that many in the current administration routinely claim to support.

What makes this especially painful is that the individual who lost his life, Alex J. Pretti, was a member of AFGE, my organization. A worker, a union sibling, a human being. That alone demands our attention, our restraint, and our commitment to truth.

I never thought I would see what is happening in this country. I wonder, do Beau Lafave and Dave Prestin care, or will they stay silent while our rights are under attack? I will not. I fight for a government that respects the Constitution, protects our freedoms, and serves the people first.
