At a time of so much economic uncertainty, our federal government could and should be providing community housing developers certainty on those things it controls if it truly wants to build at the scale and speed they talked about during the election

“We have the capacity, the tools, and the know-how to get it done. Evidence shows that every dollar spent on Indigenous housing creates a return on investment of $6.49, driving economic development forward and reducing reliance on government services”

The Club board argued it wanted, in order, 1. Parking and revenue from parking on land they don’t own, forever 2. The chance to develop this exact project, but themselves 3. $1m per year, for 99 years. Surely Council can see they are disingenuous in opposition #wpgpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I’m proud to live in a province where the response to #homelessness is housing and supports. Biggest concern from the #communityhousing sector? Will the housing and level of support be even near enough the incredible need they are seeing among current tenants, never mind those in encampments?

This is the first time in my 15 years in Winnipeg that I’ve seen political support for social housing at the municipal level…we need to make the most of it while the opportunity is here

Really interesting discussion of housing affordability and the solutions. Supply and demand matters when it comes to housing costs, but subsidizing middle income housing isn’t going to work: “Bluntly, Herbert says, 'We don’t have enough subsidy dollars to go around to help even the poor”
This might be the single best piece I've seen on the root causes of our current housing supply shortage and affordability issues.

But I anticipate many of these will trickle down to those who need them eventually. Sorry, I mean, filter down?
