Only two books have ever scared me. Cujo because I was a boy when I read it and that thing in the closet jumped from book the into my closet. It fucked me up for a bit.

And Annihilation. I was deeply unsettled for days after reading that book.

So maybe it's just how we tell action stories. Put less focus on face-punching and more on the qualities of great warriors, soldiers and leaders.

Ripley and Sarah Connor are action heroes loved by men and women. Their strengths are not based in muscle mass, but in both universal and identifiably feminine qualities.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. "Marketing to sheer apathy." That's it. Unfortunately, there is large sense of apathy in the zeitgeist, so the market is there. I hope that children reject it before they get addicted to it.

The biggest tell is that they're marketing to sheer apathy. Catering to people who don't like making art? Bewildering. Even if this demographic is convinced to toy with it... there's no passion to keep them going with it. No retention.
