I probably agree with you on this, but I am also pluralist and like to see different flavors. These courses can complement more pragmatic experiences.

@drlisacorrigan.bsky.social you are an inspiration!

Practices matter, but are largely uninteresting to folks in civics who want to do political theory, virtue ethics, American history, or theories of institutions. Do both. @drlisacorrigan.bsky.social , @theatlantic.com, @rhetoricpj.bsky.social, @atillahallsby.bsky.social, @bonniehonig.bsky.social

Am a pluralist too, but worry about elevating "theory" over the original meaning: "a way of seeing and doing." Anatomy is important for physicians, but they have to learn the practical art of diagnosis and treatment. So too with democratic life. Let's teach folks how to debate productively again!

was just engaging this article from a journo I really like: www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/202... My sense is that the risk is a convo dominated by #polisci, #virtueethics, and #politicaltheory at the expense of focus on the practices that make democracy possible. #rhetoric

and, TBH (as painful as it is) what seems to be the practice of segmentation built into rhetorics of @bsky.app vs. twitter. Still, #lovingithere, and #toometa. #whyhashtags #thosearen'treallycategories, #oldhabitsdiehard

Yes @drlisacorrigan.bsky.social: even worse, the technologies and practices that sustain that public separation (a'la segmentation and/or the big sort) are both products of, producers of, and means of rationalizing our intimacy with folks like us and our disgust of everyone else. #self-fulfilling

such a big fan of the deal sisters and Kim Seal's solo work! Great article

I mean, when ppl. say: "I don't get how the election went this way" they have three options: retreat, ignore, or figure it out. In our polarized times, frameworks left, right, and otherwise prevent us from thinking the intelligibility of the "other" person and how they put the world together.

100% @differance.bsky.social: getting public/"ness" is key. May not resonate w/ folks immediately, but my experience in bigtime politics & academic work, bears it out. How we understand who "we" are, who is "with"/"against" us, and the habits framing it is priority #1. @drlisacorrigan.bsky.social

Not only is your handle sound, @lacanmunist.bsky.social, but I appreciate that you emailed your thanks recently. Would love to catch up: proud of (and admire) you and your awesome success.

Yes! @stevellano.bsky.social, poesis is making and shaping.A great insight on your part and an inspiration for all of us who like (actually) doing things with words! Good to see you on here.

amen, @differance.bsky.social. I was just making a similar point in a random @bsky.app poetry experiment. bsky.app/profile/chri.... I guess Baudrillard is the closest to my take, but as always, I affirm almost any insight that issues from the huge noggin of @differance.bsky.social! #differance
I like Foucault, Derrida, Lacan, and all the other folks that they lump together without reason to rally the troops against ideas they will never read (let alone really engage)

Thanks so much @mlpaulesc.bsky.social: you are more brave/talented than me when it comes to literary/poetic analytic acumen, but I appreciate that you'd take the time to comment, that you appreciate the intentional randomness, and that you read closely enough to get the schtick! #missbrouwer
