In addition to teaching students what Aristotle, "the Founders," or 18th c. philosophers said, let's teach listening, arguing, debate, and work for the good of the whole--even with people that they disagree with. We need to learn to talk again if we want a healthy polis.

I probably agree with you on this, but I am also pluralist and like to see different flavors. These courses can complement more pragmatic experiences.

This investigative journo is smart, though not aligned with me in interesting and productive ways. Only present in the article via a link, but appreciate the perspective. Smart, even if you disagree--which is how the demos works, no? www.realclearinvestigations.com/articles/202...

@holdenthorp.bsky.social maybe this is the platform where we will REALLY talk. There is a lot to talk about: science, @unc, and our mutual love for andy perrin. Hit me up, I have tagged you like a million times! #formerdean #rubicscube #lotstotalkabout

2) lawns are the root of most social and political dysfunction in the US
Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.

@ec.europa.eu I have become ambivalent about helping and supporting #brexit. I support national sovereignty and reject un(der) representative orgs.: but you have been awesome in #Ukraine (though the solo #UK has been clutch). A unified west matters.

P.s.: "Ode to Joy"=best anthem ever.

Being in on the early days of a platform is so weird. Likes/Hearts are either zero, one or thousands. The normal distribution is REAL volatiale. Shoot, as a humanist prof. (Rhetoric/Comms.) I neither know what a "normal distribution" is, nor do I know how to spell volatile. #jesustakethewheel

@thebulwark.bsky.social I don't agree with everything you all say, but I love your work and the incisive analysis. As a prof at UNC Chapel Hill and a pretty active (but aligned w/ lots of Bulwark R) political consultant, I recommend all of your work to folks who want to understand politics better.

I like a market of ideas and polity of people where everyone gets a legitimate shot—or, failing that where at least we try.
But I like it when people come before politics: and love comes before ideology...

Hiccups in the orderly and peaceful transfer of power. A spiraling procedural/political feedback loop promotes and compounds partisanship. Politics eclipse democratic procedures and norms: and further erosion of those procedures and norms invites more rancor. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Happy to join a site w/ @drlisacorrigan.bsky.social & @smccaffity.bsky.social. #Teamrhetoric, but as a prof., fmr. vice provost, and consultant to 40+ senate, 5 gov., 1 pres., & intn'l races, I don't get university or prog. political comm strat.: just working for a robust democracy. XOXO to all.
