The Okinawa Peace Memorial Museum is full of testimony from locals who survived the battle

Southern Okinawa was the end for the two generals who led the battle. Simon Buckner, killed by shrapnel at a forward observation post, and his counterpart, Mitsuri UshiJimi, who committed seppuku. Buckner died at a nondescript road junction; Ushijima in a sea facing cave. 144 steps to up get there

Have also spent time at I.J.N underground headquarters
