I know, I know. Starmer was duplicitous from the get go. Hence my caveats. But it's still interesting in terms of how manipulative the Labour Together faction were. And how they overestimated their abilities. Starmer was always a tool. But his limited political skills has blown up in their face...

Indeed they do. The debate is how. Our current tax system is actually quite regressive. It doesn't have to be this way. A fairer, more progressive system - taxing capital and wealth more - and taking genuine steps to address tax avoidance/evasion would square the circle.

Omigod. This is delusional. And hilarious. They must be on some very strong drugs...

Yep. If it was a journo error it was a minor one as Trump's language was deliberately inflammatory. He used 'peacefully' once, 'fight' twenty times. So they might've made it clearer it was an edit (instead of just using an ellipsis) but clearly weren't misrepresenting his provocative intentions!

Quite right. On both counts.

I'm wondering if Labour is embracing a stealth version of the degrowth movement as it deepens its critique of global capitalism?

Deffo. They've boxed themselves into a corner. And any replacements are likely to be just as bad as the party's closed off any route to a soft left alternative. But at least we get rid of the current fuckwits. Socialists need to look beyond Labour and the movement as a whole needs to raise its game.

And not sure what you mean by 'modernisation' but respect for heritage and sensitive refurbishment can be a key to success, while wrecking ball alterations can be a disaster.

Yes, habits are changing, people are poorer, pubs need a fairer tax regime. But well-managed wet-led pubs are still very popular. The key to survival is surely a quality offer (cask ale & a range of other drinks), great customer service, good food (where offered) & a strong community connection.
