This requirement is an over reaction to the Lapulapu tragedy. Making community festivals pays thousands in policing costs won't increase safety in a meaningful way. It could, however, force community festivals to fold.
So in the absence of any official policy, a community festival was told they’d need to pay two cops $437/hour each, with no justification or oversight from the city

Alberta Foundation for the Arts lifts its arts granting budget for operating and project programs by 10%. That's a big increase.

Alberta continues to lead all other provinces in terms of new public investment in the arts.

At last night's Yo-Yo Ma concert, Vic Symphony announced that the 2024-25 season saw a 44% increase in attendance and 18 sold out shows. This indicates robust and growing demand for arts events in Greater Victoria.

Last night, View Royal council reaffirmed its commitment to the CRD Arts Service, voting against a reduction in its contribution level. This is great news for arts in the capital region.
