There is huge potential here for energy bill savings - but only if the UK acts on the recommendations.

Heat pumps do come with a higher up-front cost - but maximising running cost savings unlocks more options to finance those upfront costs and deliver long-term savings

We set out four recommendations for government - in total, these could slash the average UK heat pump bill to ~£375 per year.

That's over £445 per year LESS than the current average gas heating bill.

Fantastic to have been selected as a Labour candidate for Addiscombe East, together with @maddiehenson.bsky.social .

Looking forwards to delivering positive change for #Addiscombe, and working with @rowennadavis.bsky.social to transform Croydon into a council which puts #PeopleFirst.

Great to join @rowennadavis.bsky.social and @maddiehenson.bsky.social visiting some of our amazing local businesses in Addiscombe - pictured here with the brilliant Alfredo at Farrago Fish.

The real sense of community here is what keeps our local high street thriving.

The GB power system went below 5% fossil power on 3 seperate occasions last week (8.5 hours total). 🔌💡

In other words, we did "Clean Power" 3 times last week - and the world didn't end. 🧵

If we raise enough to go ahead with all 3 sites, we'll be installing over 700 solar panels!

As well as saving money for our community sites - that's equivalent to taking 15 cars off the road, or planting over 1,000 trees!

Over £40k raised already!

Amazing to see such a positive response to #Croydon 's first ever community solar offer ☀️🔌💡

But we still need new investors - help us put #solar on all 3 of our amazing community sites! (Target return: 5%!)

Instead we need to prioritise hydrogen where it will be needed most.

Preparing iron for steel-making - not wasted in domestic boilers. Backing up a Clean Power system - not wasted on cars or trains.

Using hydrogen for heating is INCREDIBLY wasteful. Other technologies like heat pumps offer a far more efficient and affordable alternative.

The changes won't just benefit renters either. Reducing energy bills helps keep a lid on inflation. Which helps keep interest rates down for everyone.

Gas price spikes drove up bills massively in 2022 - but we're still under threat from further increases. (Image from: www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cl...)

A massive 9% of privately rented homes have problems with damp, posing a real risk to tenants' health.
