Is that surprising, though? Dartmouth is probably the most conservative Ivy and Beilock’s all smiles and “critical convos” in public but lockstep with donors and the trustees when it matters

Agree. Public protests that turn violent, justifying a "state of emergency," expanding executive power to include the use of the US military against US citizens would be, like, page 2 of the authoritarian playbook.

Reading that Newsweek piece is like looking at an AI rendering of "journalism." It has some of the recognizable visual signals, but the details are all wrong

If whoever is behind this is sincere then they are grossly naive and irresponsible. But there has been zero credible attribution, so it's reasonable to assume it's a trap. Oh, you'll be super peaceful so it's all good? You can't control who will show up and what they will do. Don't be naive.

And here's a clue: "The News was confirmed on Political Revolution's [again, not a real organization] Reddit page." In what far-flung universe of trash reporting is this confirmation of anything?
February 4, 2025 at 9:48 PM
Newsweek says it spoke to the "organizers" of the protests, but does not include anyone's name. The piece gives no indication that it has verified the identity of any group or ogranization associated with this so-called protest.

There's also no link to the supposedly "official" 50501 Movement Instagram page, just a link to ...Instagram. There is an Insta account called 50501 Movement, but it contains no such statement as quoted in the Newsweek piece.

That is not a reliable piece in Newsweek. First, it gets the name of the supposed "sponsoring" organization wrong. It's "Our Revolution," not "Political Revolution" and that's why Newsweek didn't provide a link. There is no inforrmation at all about the 50501 protests on Our Revolution's website.

Extremely suss. Who is planning/organizing this? I smell a trap.
