#writingq Be honest, who has downloaded Chatgpt? Have you tried it? Would you incorporate any of its suggestions in your MS?

A question on Bluesky etiquette. Comments on my posts I generally reply to and follow. If someone randomly follows me, I check their profile. If we have things in common, e.g., writing, I follow back. Often, I get an immediate "high Chris" PM. Am I a curmudgeon if I ignore them?

It's Dec 1st, so I'm starting a #histfic #writingprompt. Intro.

What was the last thing you Googled and why? Mine was a fruitless search for references to bisexuality between the Ancient Greeks and Freud. #betareading #writing

#pennedpossibilities 184 — Do any of your characters believe in soulmates?
John was convinced Cathy was The One. Even her affair did not shake this belief, so he solved the problem by taking her to France, only to fall on love with Francine.

The #WIPSnips Nov 20: worth

Until today, the life growing within you belonged to them. They bought you and the child. They have cancelled the purchase. You are free, and you have your baby. Is that not worth more than money?

#WritersCoffeeClub Nov 18. What have you written most different from your usual work?
Probably my mailing list magnet. It's a short story about an art magazine journalist who go to France to interview a sculptor and falls in love with his mistress. Free download here (Warning, sexually explicit)
Will the interview save Stephanie's career or destroy her marriage?
Maurice is a sculptor. He is also deaf, dumb, and blind. Stephanie must nail a killer interview to save her career. She hopes by interviewing the sculptor’s muse Monique she will get the angle she nee...

#pennedpossibilities 157 — Is there anything in life your MC has changed their mind about?

Sandie, a high functioning maths student, is paid to get pregnant by her professor and sell the baby. The condition is he does not know he is the father. She decides to tell him and keep the baby.
November 17, 2024 at 6:47 AM
What's the dumbest thing your MC has done?

Thinking she can: 1 seduce the Archbishop of Bordeaux, 2 lobby the Vatican council to make him Pope, 3 get him to move his throne to France, 4 elevate their love-child to St Peter's throne.
3 out of 4 ain't bad (Hélie only made it to Cardinal) #writingq

#WritersCoffeeClub 11/13: Is there a message that runs through all of your work?
Yes.
Death does not close the book, it only turns the page.
Each book is dual timeline with the historical characters being previous incarnations of the modern Cartwright family and friends.

7 Race. (13th C)
The Cathars of the Ariège considered their ideological differences far greater than race. There were important differences between their way of life and those of their Catholic oppressors in the rest of France, but these were more cultural than racial.

Catching up with November #TimeTravelAuthors
1 Intro
Sandie is a high functioning Cambridge student. In 13th C she was the daughter of the Compte de Foix. In the president she seduces a professor to provide a baby for an adoption agency. In the past she seduces Pope Clement V to save the Cathars

#TimeTravelAuthors 29 Tricks.
I'm not sure it counts as time travel, but the Cartwright family books are dual timeline stories where the historical thread is an earlier reincarnation of a contemporary character.

Been a lot of anti-Amazon talk on my feed lately, which, yeah, I get. But as an indie author whose income is almost exclusively from Amazon no matter how much I promote other platforms, it gets tiring when people act like indie authors are the devil for going with Amazon.

Obligatory first post introduction. Two years ago, I joined the Great Twitter Migration, ending up @chriscutler@creativewriting.social
Two books and only a few sales later, l am starting to wonder if I've shot myself in the foot. Any bluesky advice and follow recommendations?
