Send the handle through the eye then set the wedges. Likely need to use a screwdriver or chisel to get them in place.

The next. really unimportant, step cut the excess off the wood wedge so you don’t squash it into a splintery mess.

Last clean the top with the angle grinder.

Next, cleaned and redressed the hammer sides and faces. Dusted the sides with the wire brush angle grinder attachment. The faces were in good shape, so smoothed over with a 60 grit flapdisk

Last step will be hanging the new handle

Extended and thinned down the arm of the shoehorn. Next I’ll need to prep then do the twist. After that I’ll be down to grinding and polishing

New hobby just dropped
Bikejoring is a dog sport and outdoor activity where one or more dogs pull a person riding a bicycle forward. It's a "dryland" version of sled dog racing, adapted for seasons without snow. More work on it this morning! Continued to shape the horn and elongate to shaft. Probably getting close to done with the forge work
Railroad spike shoehorn laying in the anvil longways. The horn now makes a full, wide u at the end, tapers to a slender neck, then thickens as it rises to the head which holds its original shape and size.

Had a little time at the forge this morning to work on @aielcakes.bsky.social’s shoehorn. The horn is starting to come into shape!

A railroad clip below a chopping knife made from a railroad clip. The handle is an uneven twist that tightens toward the bottom. The edge of the waves like a beach with an inconsistent finish.

I smithed a shoehorn
A rusted railroad spike sits next to one shaped into a shoe horn. The head retains its original shape then a twisted section for handle before the spooned and rounded end The shoehorn over the spike to show the bright reflection of the light in the polished horn. The polished shine is marred by divots and scratches and notches Again the horn crossed diagonally over the spike to show the twisted handle and the tilted back head
