The idea of a figure who will save the world is very convenient for those in power as it lets everyone wait to be saved. If we are to be saved our saviours will number in the millions and we can be among them. Some will just not vote for the demons, others will devote their lives to the struggle.

Power drills are an excellent example of how materialism is a terrible ideology for the planet and how we absolutely do not need economic growth. We must have ~1 drill per household and most of us need it less than once a year. We could easily have a stuff library with 1 drill per ~500 people

Interesting idea that I hadn't ever considered from agnostic athiest and biblical scholar Bart Ehrman (on his excellently titled "Misquoting Jesus" podcast) that belief in an afterlife where everyone gets what they deserve can be used to justify not helping people in this life.

I just found out that around 20% of the neanderthal genome still exists today in living people!!
No individual person has more than 3 or 4% but we don't all have the same bits. If you add up all the bits we've found, about a fifth of the Neanderthal genome is still present on earth today.
