I am a big fan of pauses, for drama, for tension. I haven't had the chance to do it a lot in the pages of SMQ So far, but I think some moments in comic narrative *only* work if you allow them to settle, to sink in.

The first thing you must know is that a comic must be readable. Whether or not you go Left to right or right to left, the important part is that the eye follows a certain rhythm: reading direction + top to bottom. A pleasing reading experience will (1) avoid confusion and (2) will lead the eye.
