Since the beginning of time, people used references. You see, you draw. Like,duh 🫠

people misunderstand using reference isn't because you can't draw it yourself but rather so you get accurate details and build up your visual library, you're not always copying it "as is" the whole time either 🙄

absolutely. I wouldn't even know where to find an artist studio near me to collaborate or even get in contact with.
And online it is 100% a "every man for himself" sort of mindset unless you manage to find a friend or three to interact with.

Oh yeah definitely in that way, but in extension into real life it is very rare, also I see more throat cutting than collabing too, which is equally sad

a way in which i see this continued to some extend is small art servers on discord and the like.
Not the big ones with 50+ people (and definitely not anything with 1k+) but in small servers that is still a thing.
Sadly quite rare tho.

Also please learn about how artists used to collect themselves into studioes and push/help each other. The art world could be a friendlier place that way, I feel.
