I just finished the book “The Black Guy Dies First: Black Horror Cinema From Fodder to Oscar” and omg why didn’t I read this sooner? So many films to watch, so many films to avoid, so much for this white person to think about. I loved it.

Cleaning out my family home; really emotional stuff. But some gems. My great grandmother grew up on a farm and became a commercial artist in Iowa. She painted the county fair beauty queens and prized livestock. She also was a big supporter of the UN and painted a lot of pro-diversity art.

Final day of the fest closed with the time loop horror “Desert Road” and the tear jerking drama “A Little Prayer.” Both were movies that I’ll be reflecting on long after leaving the theater. I’m tired but happy!

Last night was great. “Familiar Touch” director/writer Sarah Friedland and actor Kathleen Chalfant in conversation. Then, “Zodiac Killer Project!” Probably one of my favorites of the fest. A meta examination of the true crime docs we know and love.
