On the topic of Chicago Public Library, here's a reddit user who is visiting all of the library's branches and eating at a restaurant in that neighborhood. Some are local, some are less-so, but the project is a fun one to read. What makes the libraries & food special?

We still need people to call their alderperson and the mayor to demand no cuts to CPL. You can also write a letter (below):
Did you know that in the proposed 2026 budget, Chicago Public Library is getting 89 quiet layoffs and a 50% reduction in their collection budget? Yeah. Book budget slashed in half… at a LIBRARY. Show your support for CPL by contacting your alders: actionnetwork.org/letters/no-l...

More CPL in the news. This time, in the Chicago Tribune! If you don’t have a subscription, you know how you can read the article? Accessing online resources with your Chicago Public Library card (your pin is your zip code): www.chicagotribune.com/2025/11/07/o...
Ald. Samantha Nugent: Libraries in Chicago are essential. Why is the mayor cutting CPL’s budget?
Halving the Chicago library’s collections budget will mean longer wait times for new books and a reduced ability to serve residents.

More CPL in the news, this time with a local author, an alderman and the head of their union: www.wbez.org/in-the-loop-...
Chicagoans are saying ‘no’ to Chicago Public Library budget cuts
The city’s proposed 2026 budget would cut CPL’s book-buying budget in half and cut vacant positions that need to be filled.

HOT LIBRARY INTEL: you can ask your library to purchase specific titles for their collection, usually right through the library's website.

Librarians can't know every single new title, nor can they mind-read what their patrons might want to check out. Give it a shot!

The talented @directorsclub.substack.com was just on Not Scared podcast chatting about his favorite horror movie, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). It’s a great double feature with my episode of Director’s Club pod, where we discuss Mike Flanagan! chloesnotscared.substack.com/p/9-the-texa...

I think they should invent a drug that lets you wipe your memory of John Carpenter movies so you can watch them fresh every Halloween. And then John Carpenter should make a movie about this drug's terrifying side effects.

I cancelled Spotify years ago because it’s expensive and terrible to artists. So the folks who are doing it just now, please lmk if you need any tips or just some solidarity. I listen to a lot less music, I’ll be honest, but I feel better about where my money is going.

UPDATE I FOUND A SCREENING !!
Why can’t I see Frankenstein in theaters? Just take my money. I’ll see it multiple times. I’ll see it in IMAX. Hell, I’d even see it at a non-Regal theater (I have a Regal pass).
