Okay so I recently picked up an oooold pair of binoculars, and they're pretty beat up and out of focus but they're pretty much entirely intact!
The devastating effect these are already beginning to have on my hungry, intra-vocational fascination is, to be described..
A rich, honeylike leather case with some pretty clear signs of aging The binoculars themselves! Side-on, there's not a lot of detail to be gleaned besides the evidently early-prismatic technologies in the offset of the objective-lens (peepers out the front) and the ocular-lens (where your peepers go) and the adjustable eye-cups Top down we can make out that these are not articulating in the middle like many modern binoculars, rather these look like two early prismatic monoculars stuck together! Note the focusing wheel between the two scope assemblies

After a "quick sketch" turned into an entire lost day of happily painting away I had to put the pen down

Might revisit another time? But there's other stuff what needs drawin'!
The scene depicts a war-torn landscape from the low point-of-view within a crater. Toward the POV a character lays low against the muddy wall of crater, snuffing a cigarette in the space between them and their horrendously muddied rifle (based on the Mauser 1871). The character is dressed in a muddy, antiquated seeming garb with a frilled dress over an olive drab uniform and tall marching boots. Beyond the foreground is a series of other characters with mismatched uniforms and equipment, unified by a dark red dress motif. The equipment slung by these characters far outguns the foreground character, with most carrying more contemporary bolt-action rifles, one in the middle-background carrying a weapon reminiscent of the early MP18 submachine gun fixed with a bayonet. Further beyond these characters, we can see they are focussed on a raging fire far in the background, the air thick with smoke that likely prevented the foreground character from being given away by their cigarette smoke. The whole scene evokes the messy, desolate and muddy environments focussed on in artworks of WW1, taking inspiration from the following artworks: Hanz Larwin's "Soldat und Tod (Death and the Soldier)", 1917 Captain Harvey Dunn's "Doughboy fighting through barbed wire entanglements", 1918 Franz Dudde's "Artellerieschlacht bei Verdun (Artillery Battle at Verdun)", 1927

The rightmost is fashioned after the RE-1861 Parade Commander, differentiated for OC. The leftmost is fashioned after the RE-2310 Honorary Guard also differentiated for OC, the left also hangs an RE-2124 Constitution painted prestigiously in an obnoxious yellow-and-black in their off-hand.

Pigeons are our own pocket sized city dinosaurs!!! We domesticated them to love us and then we abandoned and villainized them. Our little feathered friends deserve kindness.
