Antifungal exposure can enhance Candida glabrata pathogenesis
Azole antifungal drugs directly inhibit lanosterol 14-α-demethylase and indirectly affect the expression of metabolic, transmembrane transporter, and cell wall organization genes in fungal pathogens. ...

Request for my fellow fungal researchers! Do you have a tote bag from Asilomar 2024 hanging around that you don’t use/want? A friend has lost theirs and they’re gutted

**New paper alert!

I'm so proud of Gabriela Ribeiro's paper from her PhD work. Big thanks to our amazing KCL colleagues, Emily and Jon. Together we showed how the N. glabratus/C. glabrata cell wall can alter host outcomes in diverse infection models.

Mannan is a context-dependent shield that modifies virulence in Nakaseomyces glabratus
Fungal-host interaction outcomes are influenced by how the host recognizes fungal cell wall components. Mannan is a major cell wall carbohydrate and can be a glycoshield that blocks the inner cell ...

That feeling that with every step “this is the time it will get better” and then realizing - nope. It’s systemic. It’s exhausting. We need to talk about it. But if you do- you’re the problem.
