as much as i love the angel self-actualisation, both thematically and plot-wise, it unfortunately shifted attention from the victim of abuse to how the abuser feels about himself

amenadiel never finished his redemption arc because the writers forgot what he had to atone for

and it would give amenadiel an opportunity to properly apologize for it

that’s right, in canon he never apologized for forcing his brother into hell for thousands of years. he didn’t even apologize for trying to kill him

i wish amenadiel forcing lucifer to hell was not forgotten after s1. i wish they talked about it after it’s over. because when it was happening lucifer couldn’t show weakness

it would show how much both of them had grown, if lucifer felt safe to share how he really felt about it

it’s easier to believe you’re unlovable with all this baggage. easier to hate and blame yourself than to accept how greatly wronged you were

so he ignores and puts off this issue until it’s so all-consuming, he loses control in s4e9

and sadly we never return to it in s5 and 6 (of course, we don’t)

which is why he’s angry at azrael and barely suppresses the pain when he finds out that all this time she didn’t hate him. but apparently her fear of awkwardness was greater that her love for him

honestly, i also get pissed when i watch this scene. i’m not azrael’s number one fan

so when chloe starts to show signs of affection, he tries very hard to find a reason why it's not real

because as empowering as he finds it, it would also force him to face the fact that he was abandoned intentionally. that all this time he could have been loved but wasn’t

at that point in the series, the only person openly professing their love for lucifer is his mum. and we get to see how suspicious he is, believing it to be a manipulation

and mum doesn’t help her case with all the schemes to hurt chloe, which consequently hurt lucifer too

i think it's because it would ruin his idea of himself as an "unlovable monster," in which he found some comfort

as hurtful as it is, it explains why his father didn't love him enough to forgive and allow him back, and his siblings — enough to stand up for him
