A fave of mine is jail support, offering snacks / phone calls / rides / etc to ppl post-release. I like that it’s tangible, lets you sit, & can be as social (or not) as you’d like. Connecting with @chicommunityjs.bsky.social is a great way to get started.

Released from jail late at night
Over the last five years, the number of people released from the Cook County jail late at night has steadily increased.

@nlgchicago.bsky.social have posted about Chicago arrests from the protest last night, and @chicommunityjs.bsky.social supports everyone released from our county jail with snacks, jackets when it's cold, bus cards, and even rides to the precinct where their stuff is and home.

If you’re in Chicago, a great way to learn more directly about the experience of incarceration - and help people who’ve just experienced it! - is to volunteer for a @chicommunityjs.bsky.social jail support shift! bsky.app/profile/that...
Even colder tonight but we had fire, blankets, & camaraderie. And the colder it is the more essential it is to be out there giving coats, rides, snacks, phone calls, and a place by the fire to people just released from jail.

Supporting jailed comrades is a big part of direct action. @chicommunityjs.bsky.social asks us to do the same for those who are criminalized, targeted, & surveilled in their daily lives, for those we don't know, no questions asked. And in an era of dehumanization and erasure, we need more of that.

Some people who volunteer are already part of local abolitionist organizing. Others are learning about the harms and violence of jails and prisons during their shifts. No prior experience or poli ed is required, something that is incredibly useful for building mutual aid engagement.

Chicago Community Jail Support are on Bluesky! @chicommunityjs.bsky.social
They try to do 1-2 shifts outside the jail every day, and welcome volunteers. There’s very little barrier to getting involved in this work.

We know this certainly isn’t justice for serving 50 years unjustly in prison, but Leonard’s release is worth celebrating. We are so grateful to everyone across Mother Earth who advocated and organized to FINALLY #FreeLeonardPeltier ❤️🔥
