NIH grants peeps are working hard, on a Sunday night, trying to get our grants out to us as their world is in chaos.

We owe them all a huge debt.

Science peeps: be sure to send your grants personnel (grants management, POs and SROs) a note of encouragement and gratitude.

Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭

It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.

What is or isn't a "BCI"?

We argue in Nature BME today that if the tech stimulates or records brain activity AND does computation, it's a BCI.

But we still need a way to discuss different types of BCI separately... 🧵

Super exciting. The culmination of years of careful, theory-guided experiments and detailed analysis. Love it.
Can the motor system use sensory expectations to prepare for unexpected events?

Excited to share my latest work with @andpru.bsky.social – where we establish that sensory expectations shape neural population dynamics in motor circuits!

This is an excellent thread summarizing many of my own objections. I’d like to add two thoughts: 🧵 1/n
There's a movement in neuroscience suggesting we should be pursuing bigger bets with larger teams. I think there's a case for doing a bit of this, but I think it's a bad idea to prioritise it for two reasons, and a good case for saying we should be moving in the exact opposite direction. 🧠🧪

Live demos are hard, letting anyone try out the demo is harder. Hardware makes all of this doubly so.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by our posters, engaged in discussions, and tried out the surface EMG demo. We were humbled by the interest! #NeurIPS2024

We just open-sourced two large wrist electromyography (EMG) datasets - one towards typing without a keyboard and the other for predicting hand poses - with baselines.

We believe these will help advance research into making high bandwidth non-invasive neuromotor interfaces a reality!
