I don't want to read subtitles while playing a video game, but I'm also not trying to hear a bunch of American accents if the game is set elsewhere. If it's set in France, make the characters sound French! And so on. Developers act like the US is ground zero for racism. We can handle an accent.

I wonder if this is done for other games. Does Fallout (as American as Atomic Heart is Russian) use voice actors in the same way for their foreign-language versions? God, I hope not.

Maybe they believed Americans would be too biased against Russians to fully embrace the lead character if he had a Russian accent? But the game is so clearly a reflection of Russian culture! An American accent doesn't hide that. It just pulls us out of the story. I hated the voice acting. Truly.
