Medieval tile depicting King Mark & Tristram from the C13th Tristram Tiles which tell the tale of the adulterous love affair between Tristram and Isolde. The tiles were made at Chertsey Abbey, and are now part of the collections at the British Museum. 📸 My own #TilesOnTuesday

Formerly School of Handicrafts built 1885 became St Thomas in 1956 as 1-form voluntary-aided Catholic school. In 1980s it became St Anne’s & in 1995 the land was sold & the building demolished

Throwback Thursday - 2-4 London Street, Chertsey, 1966. In C19 was a mineral water factory before becoming Gerrard Chemist where in late 1890s he installed generator for 1st electric lighting within the town. Later used by Chemist Agnew Nicholson but vacant & left derelict before demolished in 1986.

Throwback Thursday - Lagonda Motors The Causeway Egham c1935

1900 Wilbur Gunn sold 1st Lagonda motorcycle. By 1903 was manufacturing at Egham. By 1909 making cars. WW1 made shells & other munitions. In 1935 went into receivership & became Lagonda (Staines) Ltd. 1947 became Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd

Throwback Thursday - Post Office & bakery Brox Rd Ottershaw c.1915.
1839 Chertsey was made a post town & until Ottershaw post office built in the early C20th mail to village residents was delivered to Chertsey where it was collected by a foot messenger & delivered to its recipient #LocalHistory

Four different views from the foreshore this week, spanning the (almost) end of the Tidal Thames to the old Pool of London. From the bucolic, meandering SW, on to the bustling busy City, the river rolls east. Everyone can ID Tower Bridge but see if you can name the others. (Answers later.) #mudlark

Early C18 The Cricketers (L) traded as The Walnut Tree with a sign depicting cricketers under a walnut tree painted by George Morland in lieu of paying his bill. Bridge Hotel (L) opened1870 on site of former wharf. All 3 rebuilt or demolished 1990s
