Another favorite from this most recent flare

The lowest portion of the sky is glowing with a gentle green light, with horizontal bands stepping up from right to left. Above the green, a red glowing band has vertical bands following the step pattern. A final band of green, bleeding to white, rests above the red. The aurora was borealising like mad tonight (from Boulder CO)
The aurora borealis painted across the sky above a row of low-rise apartment buildings. There is a thin band of green-ish light just above the buildings. Above that is a wide swath of reddish-pink glow, with faint diagonal bands, which fades at the top of the picture to a dark, almost black, purple. The pink glowing band has a shape somewhat reminiscent of (angel?) wings.

The northern lights shine bright above a row of houses and trees. Above one of the houses, a band of bright pink with faint vertical stripes fades to purple then back to pink moving from right to left. Below the pink, a very faint green glow is visible towards the horizon.

Nothing like getting your first tattoo at 50 to recognize that getting older doesn’t have to mean giving up on your future ❤️

I don’t hate this one, but I doubt it will make it. The clay was a bit lumpy when I started working it (see: I didn’t feel like wedging wet clay from a failed throw)

The bowl is passable, I think (if lopsided), but the bottom suuuuper thin. We shall see

I scraped my first attempt once it got a weak spot in the side and started going all ripply on me. My second attempt, though, is intriguing (the put on the right in this photo). It’s definitely lopsided at the top, and I may end up hating it, but for the moment it’s one I hope survives the process

I did manage to trim this one today. I’m still not sure how much I love it, but that makes it a good candidate for practicing handles, at least 🫠
Trimmed pot sitting upside down on a pet wheel. The trimmed pot has a (slight uneven) foot carved in on a bulbous cup. The base is very round, then it narrows somewhat before flaring again at the mouth. The mouth is visibly distorted from round (and not on purpose)

Instead of cleaning up (as I probably should have, at that point), I took some clay that I had failed to throw earlier in the morning and tried one more time :) I feel middling about this one. I don't love the proportions, but it may end up as a lovely coffee mug. If I can figure out handles :D
White (b-mix) stoneware mug, wet and sitting on a board to dry. It has a vase-like shape, with a rounded bottom, constricting slightly in the neck, before widening again in the mouth. (I like this shape, but I'm not sure the proportions are correct - I feel like it is a bit too broad and squat)

I was hoping to make this second bowl feel something like a set. (It is not going to feel like a set).

This is the pot I feel is the least likely to make it through the whole process, but we shall see...
A wet stoneware-thrown bowl. The sides flare out gradually at the bottom, but become way too vertical, way too soon. The top cuts off abruptly (I do not love this pot, and I am slightly sorry that I didn't recycle it right-away)

After a couple of failed attempts, this was my first success. I really like the shape of this bowl, and I hope it makes it through the whole process.
Wet stoneware pottery bowl, roughly the shape of a cappuccino mug, fairly open, with a slight inward gradient at the top. (Cross your fingers on this one for me, please. I really like how it's turned out so far)

Look. It's been a tough year. For a lot of us I think. For me, the year started out with a bang. Literally. I got hit by a car in January.

It's gotten... well, better since then. Mostly. But I'm still working on... mostly everything.
