… wait, can most people not tell when something is using alternative sweeteners
November 23, 2025 at 5:30 AM
The majority of people I know who dislike stevia have similar taste reactions to it - somewhere between sucking on a penny and weird vegetative off-ness - as opposed to the people who just find it intensely sweet!

I suspect we will find out there’s a gene variant involved in stevia taste perception, similar to with cilantro.

(I might have to keep an eye out for if it’s involved in migraine triggers, hmm)

Stevia tastes like drinking bog water out of an aluminum can. Makes everything it’s in inedible. And because it’s technically a natural sweetener, they don’t even WARN you about it, unlike “artificial” sweeteners.

I mean, to be fair, 2020 has yet to release its hold on us

Maybe a potato crust for a quiche? Aloo paratha? Samosas? There’s a huge range of Thai and Indian curries you can put them in, and they usually freeze really well!

If they’re waxy potatoes, I love pan fried shredded hashbrowns! Grate with a box grater, use your hands to squeeze out as much liquid as possible, and throw into a very hot pan with oil or butter. Season as desired. I’ll often do onions and or peppers at the same time, and an egg makes a meal.

Welp, that’s today’s reminder about how time works

I definitely had a long, drawn out moment of confusion before it clicked lol

Sometimes I forget you weren’t always from Ontario.

Whom amongst us has not had to turn down the music so their eyes work better?

Now if I don’t deal with it immediately (or it comes in at a time of day it’s awkward for me to be on my phone), I don’t have the pressure of the hold lapsing encouraging me to deal with it.

… I am aware this particular facet is a me problem.

It might be silly, but for me, even being made to go into the app to make the decision of accepting/putting off the hold vs allowing it to lapse tended to result in my reading something I had checked out. The app was already open!

“you can unsuspend each individual hold whenever you’d like”

okay but that requires monitoring them and attempting to anticipate what the wait will be after you unsuspend, please just go back to letting me tell you when to give me the book
