Fun fact, you’re less likely to break your metacarpals if you are (checks Cleveland Clinic’s notes) under 10, or a woman between 40 and 50.

That dial goes all the way to 11? Well so does this air quality health index!

It’s happening! My Hoya Krimson Queen is blooming for the first time! Smells like tootsie rolls!
May 26, 2025 at 1:12 AM
My Hoya krohniana continues to bloom heavily, the only downside of which is that it constantly poops all over the floor. My Hoya Krimson Queen and Hoya sigillatis are both trying to flower for their first time!

Apparently these grabby assholes LOVE trellis jail.

Note to self: when doing in-town things like interpretive walks at the bird sanctuary

it is not a bad idea

to check to make sure you removed the bear spray from your hiking bag before repurposing it

Photos, because the last image (the one that was obviously one of my first plein air paintings) took me close to as long to paint as the other two. A lot of it is practice! Some of it is “how long can I actually sit with my paints on a gravel island I paddle boarded out to?”

Colouring mixing swatching doesn’t have to be the full panel finicky shit I showed earlier. I’m too tired for that now. You can learn a ton from the bigger colour pools that run together in varying ratios! Or picking any three colours and seeing how they work together.

Here I was playing around to see how burnt umber (granulating) played with other colours I use frequently. The granulation is more obvious with the cobalt teal and manganese blue, almost colour-separating mixed. I expected the cobalt teal (it’s all granulating) but not the manganese hue!

The same pigment from different companies can have very different characteristics, depending on chemical handling, how fine the pigments are, the binder used, etc. Here I was trying to figure out which turquoise to use as the cool blue in my pallet.

Look at this baby (this now-giant baby) I think I’m going to have to get rid of because I grew it too big and bushy and be-leaved from a small cutting
March 30, 2025 at 5:43 PM
Ironically, I have at least one plant that’s going to have to go out because I grew it from a small cutting too well. It’s too bushy and has too many leaves and nooks and crannies for me to even dream of treating it in effectively. 😭😭😭

Plants who refuse to stop being grabby assholes get sent to trellis jail.

Well, that’s not an ideal configuration for vision correction.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of melon this is? It showed up in my ugly produce box, so it’s potentially slightly off-model. It’s about 8”.

(I know that the colour of the flesh would help, but I don’t want to cut into it until it’s ripe, and knowing what kind of melon it is would help that.)

Here is my parent’s barn cat. Her happy noise is a sound I have never heard come out of a living creature before. (Her name is Brenda.)

I didn’t write any words this year (it’s a thing, I’m having feelings about it), but here are four of my favourite paintings I made in the last year

Today, in things that shouldn’t irk me as much as they do:

The fact that I have 12 out of 14 of the Oz novels in the same edition, and the remaining two in dramatically different formats.

My most kudosed fic on AO3 is So we all are growing young (Adventure Time, Bubbleine.)

This is it, the fic that throws off my statistics distribution. It was written early in the show’s run, and a surprising amount of the lore and speculation held up.
