The Republicans were the new hope in the 1850s and 1860s but went off the rails by the 1880s, captured by the corrupt. Whatever they may have become this time around, they've followed their 19th century path. Time to purge and renew.

14th amendment sec 3 "No person shall be a ...or hold any office, civil or military, ... shall have engaged in insurrection ... But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

Seems Presidential pardons would not count - but courts decided otherwise in 1860s?

I believe that the Democrats should support the farmers of the MAGA belt, NOT by giving them money directly, but by supporting the purchase of farm products for distribution to the destitute of the world - the same people whose designated food was destroyed by the Trump administration.

Republicans: They state that work requirements honor the dignity of work - what they mean is "we need (near) slave labor".

I believe people who damage others through deceit, theft, or violence should pay a price. I hope that a time comes when the lawyers who are lying to the courts and the people are held accountable. Those people lying to the courts in defense of Trump's actions need to lose their licenses.

I support voting in a real hard ass as the Democratic President of the United States at the next election. No Mr./Ms. nice guy/gal.

Of course, that is the outcome that the Republicans fear.

Interesting (scary) times.

The very scary aspect of the Supreme Court's decisions allowing Trump such leeway is that, under normal circumstances, a following Democratic president would be doing the same to the Republicans. But, apparently, that is not a concern - do they anticipate a one way triumph of the right?

Is there a way to contribute generally to public radio stations in Alaska? A challenge to find all the different stations and then determine/guess which has the greatest need for my modest contributions.

Do I focus on Fairbanks where I have my greatest connections?

Idle wondering from a person who just got out of bed.

If no tax on tips, will all income above minimum count as tipped income?

If no Social Security tax on taxed income will people regret it at retirement? A little late, I guess.

In the short term, those benefiting would resist going back.

If I've been getting my social security just fine why should I have to log into the portal to verify that somebody hasn't screwed it up?

In the modern era, how do I know that the message isn't a fishing attempt?

Yes, I have a login.gov account for other reasons, but ....

Talked with a person from Juneau who told me that the giant cruise ships a big negative to the town for her.

She mentioned that so many people are using cell communications when ships arrive that it negatively affects everyone's service in the area.

Small population, large ships.

Are Dunleavy's education vetoes enough to get Alaska to change the state constitution to prevent line item vetoes?

He certainly demonstrates what happens when a governor does not work with the legislature.
May 10, 2025 at 12:22 PM
What's up with Dunleavy? Who is he trying to please? What version of public service does he subscribe to?

Is he having a temper tantrum because he doesn't get what he wants?

If I was MAGA, I'd say he was a Democratic plant getting people so mad at Republicans that they'd vote them out. #Alaska

Social security - at 73 I'm now receiving the Social Security benefits I paid for all my life. And for most of the time it was taken out of taxed income, not a deduction.

And now I pay income tax, a second time, on that income?

Thank you, Republican party, for making sure I pay twice!

I hope that Democratic politicians warn that any company exploiting Ukraine for Putin's benefit will pay a large price when the Republicans are removed from power.

Almost unbelievable to watch Dunleavy and the Republican Party destroy Alaska public services, such as education, in pursuit of their belief that we are all better off for preventing outsiders from paying taxes.

Think Hillcorp and state income tax. What % of highly paid workers aren't residents?

When I went over my 401k investments at the beginning of the year I told my advisors that I wanted none of my money invested in any company that involved Elon Musk.

And I thought he was toxic before.

I cannot tell you how the decision affected me financially. But I feel better for it.

Old papers found in my mother's safe show that Koponens and Lisa and Heinz Borchard were able to file on their homesteads in 1952 because they challenged claims made earlier in the same area, where people were not doing the clearing and/or not living on site as required.

President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez of El Salvador might want to think how long he will last after a new president of the United States is sworn in January 2029 if he holds onto the Americans illegally imprisoned there. Of course, almost 4 years is a long time.

Think "Trump made me" will help?
