Alaska, Vermont, History, Weather, Finland, Ukraine, Decency - mostly don't do DMs, not looking to hookup
If almost 1 in 4 non-federal workers in Alaska are non-residents it may be time to bring back the income tax. Those people are using Alaska roads and other services without paying for it.

Why is the new Icebreaker port being placed in Juneau? Is there routine need for icebreaker in Southeastern Alaska?

I would have thought a more westerly port would make more sense. Expand Kodiak, do something in the Aleutians?

Grew up in Fairbanks so know almost nothing about Southeastern Alaska

I see that the Republicans want to attach the SAVE act to must pass legislation.

NOTHING is MUST PASS if it includes the SAVE act.

I really DO NOT care what the "must pass" legislation contains.

Pass a NEW bill that covers what needs to be covered, WITHOUT the SAVE act.

My partner was waiting a very long time on hold with Geico for an auto insurance claim.

I said "It must be all those windows broken by ICE." I could have been talking about the weather. I wasn't.

I will be so intolerant of a future Democratic administration that doesn't go after ALL of the MAGA who violate the law.

The actions of every person in ICE should be reviewed in detail. Yes, I know many predated the current admin.

Then the appointees - actions and how many bribes were paid?

I just called my Representative in D.C. and got a message that the message system is undergoing an upgrade and is inaccessible.

I wonder what the volume of calls might be that would stress a message system or not allow calls to go through.

People are so upset about mail in ballots. Perhaps it is time that election days be non-work days.

I don't know why Tuesdays, now a typical work day, are election days - perhaps tied in with market days back then?

The federal government could add days for federal elections as official holidays.

Is it accessory to murder to forbid a real investigation though video evidence shows a murder occurred?

In my simple non-lawyer mind, those preventing a charge of murder being brought before a court when people can see that a murder occurred are accessories to the crime and should go to jail.

I am so angry about the shooting by ICE in Minneapolis.

Will this be a trigger for stronger action against Trump and gang?

Which side will the 2nd amendment crowd take? And how will the nation react to that?

The Post Office is an essential government service and has been from the beginning.

We came to rely on the posted date.

Congress can pass a law that requires the post office to date each piece of mail as soon as the mail enters its system - no waiting for transportation to some central facility.

Seems simple to me: raise min wage over planned years, drop tax rates for low to mid earners. Rise in min wage yields increase demand and more than offsets inflation for those people. Lower taxes for mid earners offsets inflation for them.

From fines bad rich people pay, no inflation pain there.

I think it likely that the delays in postmarking are part of former Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's 'optimization' of the Post Office. The 'belief' that the Post Office is a business and not an essential service so has to adapt processes that are good from a business perspective only. Rural->Sad

My finance professor was Fischer Black. He loved talking about and explaining the Black-Scholes pricing model. He was looking for IT people to help test/use the model at the time.

I thought it quite interesting but had no (zero) interest in a career in finance or playing the stock market. Ha Ha

The Republicans were the new hope in the 1850s and 1860s but went off the rails by the 1880s, captured by the corrupt. Whatever they may have become this time around, they've followed their 19th century path. Time to purge and renew.

14th amendment sec 3 "No person shall be a ...or hold any office, civil or military, ... shall have engaged in insurrection ... But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

Seems Presidential pardons would not count - but courts decided otherwise in 1860s?

I believe that the Democrats should support the farmers of the MAGA belt, NOT by giving them money directly, but by supporting the purchase of farm products for distribution to the destitute of the world - the same people whose designated food was destroyed by the Trump administration.

Republicans: They state that work requirements honor the dignity of work - what they mean is "we need (near) slave labor".

I believe people who damage others through deceit, theft, or violence should pay a price. I hope that a time comes when the lawyers who are lying to the courts and the people are held accountable. Those people lying to the courts in defense of Trump's actions need to lose their licenses.

I support voting in a real hard ass as the Democratic President of the United States at the next election. No Mr./Ms. nice guy/gal.

Of course, that is the outcome that the Republicans fear.

Interesting (scary) times.

The very scary aspect of the Supreme Court's decisions allowing Trump such leeway is that, under normal circumstances, a following Democratic president would be doing the same to the Republicans. But, apparently, that is not a concern - do they anticipate a one way triumph of the right?

Is there a way to contribute generally to public radio stations in Alaska? A challenge to find all the different stations and then determine/guess which has the greatest need for my modest contributions.

Do I focus on Fairbanks where I have my greatest connections?
