The real issue is the fact that nobody can trust russia. This means that most of the deals are really PR events and Ukraine should allow itself to play by the same rules: one can limit its army but creat the super duper police with tanks that is totally not army.

Also, we feel your pain and I think most Europeans are very much rooting for democracy to prevail in your fight for it. Unfortunately there is not much I can do but to thank you and every other American I meet that keeps fighting.

I work under the assumption that the real conflict is between democracy and authoritarianism. Trump would be more than happy to lend lease for russia but most Americans will disagree with that and Trump is not that politically rich. Because of this he needs to convince people.

I'm not saying that all Americans will support this, of course. I think that in US there is around 60% support for Ukraine for various reasons and degrees. If Ukraine will reject this, the orange dude will sell hard how good the agreement was and probably more than 10% will buy it, moving the needle

Europeans come in lots of colors. Germany is probably not trusting itself to militarize again. Spain does not want to pay the price. The Nordics are getting ready for war. The Baltics are basically one step away from war anyway. Poland would love some payback. Hungary is still salty about Trianon.

I think it will be hard for Ukraine not to accept these terms as the devil is in the details and there is a good chance that the American public will be supportive. What EU should do is ditch NATO and create a EU armed union and then move their non NATO troops in Ukraine.
