Meanwhile, in that same press conference, Carney moved away from characterizing Canada’s foreign policy as feminist and called gender quality a meme “aspect” of our foreign policy.

Carney’s words prompted this response from the former secretary general of Amnesty International Canada:
Alex Neve, sharing a Globe and Mail article titled “No more feminist foreign policy, Carney says” writes: “Gender equality is a mere "aspect" of Canadian foreign policy. And we certainly don't call that policy "feminist". At a time when we need & crave global human rights leadership, the Carney government keeps heading in the other direction.”
