Peter Thiel actually wants you to own your home. He said so himself in a leaked private email to other tech executives.

He basically argued that if young people are forever renters and can't own capital they will revolt against capitalism because they have no stake in it.
A 2020 email from Peter Thiel on why young people may turn on capitalism is circulating after Zohran Mamdani's win
Years ago, billionaire Peter Thiel said that high student debt and the lack of affordable housing were causing young Americans to lose faith.

"are we gonna make housing cheaper"

"no we're just gonna give you a bigger loan lol"

Day 453 of insisting that democrats make overturning Euclid vs Ambler a policy priority

it's used as a medium of exchange, but it IS an abstraction of labor value.
November 1, 2025 at 6:24 PM
Yes, someone is putting a half a million dollars worth of labor into that Pokémon card in order to purchase it
November 1, 2025 at 6:22 PM
money is an abstraction of labor value. But yes I agree nobody should be a billionaire

I think we should just push for federal abolition of any zoning restrictions that aren't based on real objective nuisance or safety thresholds.

The housing crisis is a federal problem in the sense that the problem is the federal government allowing cities to control land use arbitrarily.
November 1, 2025 at 6:50 AM
IMO zoning is a federal problem.

Its felt locally, but local control of land use is a power granted by the feds. We need to ban density caps and single use zoning a federal level.
November 1, 2025 at 3:18 AM
- family zoning doesn't allow "unlimited market rate development" it upzones like, a handful of corridors lol

- it will drop housing costs, just not significantly. SF still won't be affordable. small changes in zoning cause small results. You need huge changes in zoning and land use.

Culture is probably a big part.

Houstons driving culture is very aggressive. On highways people will go 30+ mph over and give you the finger for driving the speed limit.
October 19, 2025 at 6:59 AM
LA has a record low vacancy rate. Your anecdotes are not evidence. Your perception can and will lie to you.
October 13, 2025 at 10:58 PM
also vacancy myth lmao

Developers don't speculate. Speculators hate Developers.

Developers create new supply, speculators profit off of supply limits. They are opposite parties.

What is good for Developers is bad for speculators
October 13, 2025 at 10:55 PM
It's importiant for developer interests and decreases the power for current residents.

Which is exactly what it needs to do - Give more power to developers that create housing, and take away power from current residents that block housing.
October 13, 2025 at 10:49 PM
The reason SB79 is so importiant is because it's a step forward towards eliminating local control in real estate
October 13, 2025 at 10:15 PM
it's a common phrase in real estate.
October 13, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Exactly.

Property rights for rich people doesn't mean "people should have the right to reasonable use of their land"

Property rights according to rich people is "Property Owners should have all of the power"
October 13, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Yet rich peoples idea of property rights is basically "I deserve the right to tell other people that they can't build apartments and shops on their land" which is completely ass backwards
October 13, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Rich people have a warped view on property rights

2nd amendment rights don't give me the right to tell other people what gun they have to purchase

1st amendment rights don't give me the right to tell you what you need to peacefully protest, or what journalism you need to report on.
October 13, 2025 at 9:02 PM
never fall in love with a view that you don't own
October 13, 2025 at 8:54 PM
If I'm an asshole at least im an asshole that supports abundant housing for everyone. Fuck LAs culture, bulldoze it and end the housing crisis.
October 11, 2025 at 6:21 AM
I love NIMBY tears. I will gladly see every ounce of LAs culture and history be destroyed if it means everybody gets to be housed.

Developers build housing. We need more housing. So yes we should let developers build.
October 11, 2025 at 6:05 AM
yeah that lines up with the 1st commenters observation - that the avarage American is relentlessly stupid when it comes to housing policy
September 24, 2025 at 11:09 PM
They go by what they see, and what they see is only what the city allows (rich people housing)
