Trying to get the abyss to stare back at me
I just watched Man of Steel again
Sorry to report but that was a BAAAD movie. The storytelling sucks! Was Snyder asleep while making it?

I hated Children of Dune. It kind of feels like that one old guy who thinks he's extremely smart but always comes off as a blabbering idiot. Kind of feels like those cringe Indian tiktoks with infinite turns and twists: I knew you'd do that so I already did that ad infinitum

I'm suddenly completely sure that I need to read A LOT of history books, starting with Will Durant's The Story of Civilization. Sadly, not able to find it anywhere, and will have to browse oldbook shops. I just hope I can find all eleven volumes

I'm loving the winter chill. Only if I could have a hot cup of coffee without getting up. Perfect Sunday that'd be!

It's remarkable how much of it I remember so well given that I've read it only once before and that too 5-6 years ago.
Turns out, Plato really knew how to write

I think Jim Carry was wrong about the money thing

I wish I could read with my eyes closed

I don't understand why it's so hard to sit down and just read. Why does life always have to get in the way

Islamabad police is now checking people's phones. This country really has become a shitty place to be. I just wish whole families could move out and start new lives. We're on this earth for such a short time, and our generation's probably going to not have a great time

Seconded
there are several author accounts being boosted in pin for pins lately with INCREDIBLY OBVIOUS AI posts. i can’t even avoid seeing the soulless, planet killing, visual slop of stolen works cos folks still repost it nonstop.

so fyi if you repost ai, i’m unfollowing your page.

As much as I love reading, I have never actually been to a library

I lent my copy of The Anthropocene Reviewed to a friend, he lost it. I'll be ordering both of them whenever this one becomes available. It's my favorite John Green book.
Lowkey hate the fact that I can never get a signed copy
Global health doctors are my street team.

If I weren't so lazy I'd have more books

Isaac Asimov was a freak of nature

Sometimes I wish reading was as easy as doom scrolling Instagram

One of the HUGE cons of living in Pakistan and not being uber rich is that you simply have no access to A LOT of great books
December 2, 2024 at 10:09 PM
I mean if that's not the best reason to pursue academia I don't know what is
One of the joys of being a historian is pulling a book off your shelf to back up your argument with primary source documents during holiday gatherings.

I understand the frustration. I'm not claiming that Trump should have won, I'm simply stating what I have observed. Only replying like this because the original author switched off comments (not sure tho)
Well, every American who voted anti-establishment and thought the billionaire who had already been president was the right answer failed civics class.

There's just something soul-enriching about buying used books, especially the ones with scribbles on almost every page. It's like you're getting so much more for so much less. Unbelievable!

Pakistani politics is very much like rom-coms. New lead, same basic story structure and always the same ending.

Trying to be like Socrates can really come and bite you in the ass. How am I supposed to always know what's the right thing to do, much less being able to do it
