Aeryn took a deep breath and allowed him to pull her to the base of the stairs. Then they started their ascent. When they were a quarter of the way up, she stopped and leaned back against the cliff wall to allow some others to pass them while she caught her breath. "I do not know that I can do this." "Come, come Sister. We have just begun. Just do not look down. We'll be there before you know it." She wrapped her hands around her side and looked up at the rest of the stairs. "Do people really climb these things more than once a day?" "I imagine some poor runners do them several times a day. If I were King, I would have my soldiers run them in the morning and again in the evening to keep them fit." "Kill them more like." She laughed and started climbing again at his insistence.

I do not have "fifth" in this book but where I would have it in other books would involve the Great Storm Lion, the Ancient Storm King, being the fifth generation to rule tempest.

"I am Bayorth." Aeryn inhaled sharply at the familiar name and he smiled. "Yes, you know of me. I visited your forefather so, so many years ago. I have come now because...well, it appears that I have been remiss in my duties for a long time and things have not gone the way I intended." Aeryn frowned slightly as she tried to comprehend what was going on at the moment. "You must be very old." "Yes. Absolutely ancient." He laughed and it was a low grumble, deep in his chest, a reminder of what he truly was behind this human facade.

"Aeryn? Yes, you have said her name over and over again. Your sister, right?" Tyrion continued with his attempts to get out of the furs, although he could feel what strength he had start to leave him. He did not want to pass out again, but he was terribly afraid that he was not going to have a choice in the matter. Before he did, he needed to make sure that this man knew that he could not stay here much longer. "Yes. She is..." "Not here. Believe me. You were chasing a dream created by the pixies. One of the dangers of the forest, I am afraid. I am sure that she is safe, your sister, whereever she is." "No." Tyrion shook his head. He wanted to argue but the voice was so damn calm and reassuring. "Not safe. Not at all." The wolf took note of his agitation and sat up, whining softly. "Wherever she is, she is, at least, better off than you are at the moment, my friend. So, we have established where you are from, where are you going? Where were you headed, lad, before those pixie bitches distracted you?"

Tyrion built a great fire within the hearth and sat close to watch the flames. He recalled their mother's story of their birth, how their fingers had been entwined as they had entered the world and he wanted nothing more in the world than to hold his sister in his arms once more. For her to be safe. As the fire died down to nothing more than white-hot coals, he removed his dagger from its sheath and closed his fist upon it. With a swift motion, he drew the blad out of his closed fist, filing the zing of cold, sharp steel slicing into flesh and the sizzle of severed nerves. He removed the amulet from around his neck and closed his bleeding fingers upon it. Blood began to trickle from between his clenched fingers and he moved his hand so that it dripped down upon the hot coals. "By the blood of the Dragon, we will be together again for our next birthday. That, I promise, my sweet sister. And those who have wronged us will meet the fiery fate that only a Dragon can mete out." As he made this oath, Tyrion heard the slithering whisper that he often heard at night since he had been gifted the amulet. Only for the first time, he understood what it was saying.

I'm back for the New Year. I'm switching to my fantasy series as I try to recreate the timeline I lost when my hard drive crashed.
The Great Mountain has remained silent since this time and the Great Mother Dragon has not been seen since. From the beginning of human written history, there have been no believable encounters with dragons in their dragon form; however, tales still exist of dragons visiting humans and even interacting with humans within a human form. These accounts have been scarce and rarely believed. In fact, most of the inhabitants of Elidora today believe that the dragons have died off, or perhaps, to have never existed in the first place. Naught but a tale to tell children.

This is from a different WIP. It is a fantasy short story (if it stays short) about a land beholden to a god of torture and violence, whose feast day they celebrate with madness, torture, sacrifice, and death.

Bail = bond. I didn't have bail in my story because I don't set bail, I set bonds. Defendants may use the term "bail," but the legal term, at least in this state, is bond. I know that people often use 'jail' and 'prison' interchangeably, but it is incorrect, and my characters won't do that.
"Look at me, I'm like 5'2 and 110 lbs soak wet. I ain't trying to get in any fights. Especially since it looks like the charges against me might be dropped." "Yeah. What are you charged with?" I shrug. "Aggravated menacing at the moment." "Oh, really?" She raises an eyebrow. "That's just a misdemeanor. Why's your bond so high?" I wonder how she knows what my bond is. Now I am paranoid that they have planted a stoolie. I suppose being crazy has its advantages. Paranoia my save my ass. I lean over and stage whisper, "it was the police chief's daughter. He doesn't like me or us together."

I didn't think that I would have this word, let alone twice. I usually use "storage unit" rather than "storage locker."
After spending three months in the hospital, a fact that my regular shrink had been aware of, my remaining time in mental health court is only a couple of weeks. I meet with the doctor as required. We have a lot to talk about and I am somewhat more open with her than the doctors in the hospital. As open as I can be. One of the issues she brings up is about moving forward and breaking free of the past. After this session, I go to the storage locker and spend some time poking around, thinking that now would be the time to get rid of some of this crap. I look through pa's boxes first. For a moment, I am startled when I grab a mirror and see Bob instead of myself. But it turns out to only be an old photograph and a trick of the light. I return it to the box and close the lid. Maybe getting rid of Mother and Kate's things will be easier. But I can't make myself even open those boxes and I leave the storage locker the way it was when I arrived.

In the same vein, as I am writing this story, I use the pronouns that I have chosen for myself even when other people are speaking. Do people actually use my preferred pronouns? No, people are generally assholes. Very few people actually do use my preferred pronouns, which is...okay, I suppose. Eli does, as do a few others. Other people purposefully misgender me, which I live with in the real world, but I don't have to here. And the Chief is a real ass about anything having to do with me but, again, this is my story and I will tell it how I like it. If you don't like it...well, fuck you then. Why are you reading this in the first place?

You met her at Joe's then?" "Yeah. I play there one Friday a month. Hundred bucks and free drinks. Can't beat that. The higher class places pay better and the tips are better, but they're not as fun. Gotta keep the music low key, you know?" "The girl?" "What about her?" He speaks through gritted teeth. "Did you meet her there?" I suppress a smirk. "Yeah, she was there. I guess."
