This morning I heard a high school in St. Louis quotes a short film I co-wrote on a regular basis. Fucking wild.

I didn’t have spooky movies for the last two days but I did watch the first two episodes of Welcome to Derry and I’m enjoying it a lot.

Day 29:

MATCH

A Tubi original so you know it’s good!

Day 28:

GOOSEBUMPS: THE HAUNTED MASK

I watched this a bunch when I was a kid. Some small parts really stick in my mind. Also reminds me how well I SAW THE TV GLOW nailed this aesthetic.

Day 27:

HELL OF A SUMMER

Fun horror comedy. Impressive stuff from such young first time filmmakers.

Day 26:

US

Hot take: this is Jordan Peele’s best movie and I can’t believe this is actually a hot take. The production design, the score, perfect balance of horror and humor. It has so much to say and so much it probably doesn’t even know it’s saying. I’m confident it’ll be taught it film schools.

Day 25:

SHELBY OAKS

Look, I liked it okay. Chris Stuckmann has a lot of potential, Camille Sullivan is great. But this has some hard to ignore problems like some bad acting and dialogue, pacing issues, and a laughable ending. There are a couple of stand out sequences that I really enjoyed though.

Day 24:

R-POINT

Military horror is not a genre I’ve seen much of. Not like “oh the horrors of war” more spooky horror. Good movie, good twists. Some terrible American acting in a Korean movie but good creepy vibes.

Day 23:

BLACK PHONE 2

Not as much of a straight crowd pleaser as the first but smartly expands on the backstory and characters from the first. Love Ethan Hawke as a villain. The dream sequences are so good. This feels like it sits on the border of mainstream Blumhouse and indie.

Day 22:

THE LONG WALK

One of the best King adaptations. Cooper Hoffman and omg David Jonsson are so good in this. Between this and ALIEN: ROMULUS Jonsson is now officially on my radar. Not everything works and the ending is changed from the book but there’s so much good that I forgive it.

Day 21:

DANGEROUS ANIMALS

Pretty good. Jai Courtney is a surprisingly good bad guy. Not as fucking awesome as I heard.

Day 20:

MAY

Hadn’t seen this in like 20 years and it still rocks. Completely forgot Anna Faris was in this. Angela Bettis should’ve been a bigger deal. I think about the ending a lot. Also add this to the list of subconscious inspiration for my own writing.

Day 19:

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

That 4K Criterion looks real good. Still holds up.

Day 18:

THE LOVED ONES

Hadn’t seen this in forever, still disturbing but good. Those crazy Australians can make a nasty horror movie.
October 20, 2025 at 5:00 AM
Day 17:

CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD

it’s okay. It doesn’t realize it’s a comedy until the last 30 minutes.

Day 16:

THE BLACK PHONE

So glad I rewatched this, it rocks. Super excited for the sequel.

Day 15:

THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2

Okay I just watched this because Madelaine Petsch is so attractive. This movie is a mess. Stupid decisions left and right. Cool to see a preview for the next one in the credits though.

A customer told me I look like Jimmy Kimmel so my day is ruined.

Day 14:

TOTALLY KILLER

So fun, love Kiernan Shipka. I’m a sucker for time travel.

Day 13:

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

Hot take: this movie is good. But for real this movie is great. A masterclass in close ups.
