We make fun of Republicans because they have a bad habit of projecting the crimes they're willing to commit on their opponents. The Democrats are just as bad about projecting the idea that their opponents are willing to follow the rules.

Good luck. Quorum on everything.

I appreciate how the Democratic leaders have stepped up their opposition - but it's too little and I'm deathly afraid that it might be too late.

Even granted this nonsense a grain of truth, the solution is eliminate tax cuts for the wealthy. Single biggest bang for your buck. After that military spending - then nothing else really comes close. The relatively trivial amount spent on the programs he's going after is a drop in the bucket.

Or maybe not buy healthcare at all because it's been nationalized like in every civilized country in the world.

The timing is good - it would let us completely ignore the upcoming 2038 problem.

There's good evidence showing up that maybe the voters didn't fail us as badly. Although even if the election was stolen, it's a failure that the race was even that close to start with.

It's not that we don't have laws in place to stop the Felon. It's that the people responsible for enforcing them aren't.

What people forget is that Republicans are not creative. If they accuse their opponents of something, it's because they've done or plan on doing it themselves. All of the noise after the 2020 election was just testing the waters for this one.

The Conservative strategy is to make people miserable because miserable people make bad choices. Put up a scapegoat, rinse and repeat. The fatalities may not be intentional, but they do help make people miserable.

It's almost as though running a government isn't the same as running a business. Though, to be fair neither the Felon or Musk show any aptitude for running a business either.

This is why single issue voters are the pawns of fascists. I agree the Biden administration could have done better - but she was still the better option.

You are unquestionably the better salesperson than I am by every metric and I agree with the philosophy of the statement. I would point out that Trump and the Republican party have been doing the opposite for decades and doing very well by it.

At the current pace, we won't have a country in two years for midterms to matter.
February 1, 2025 at 12:11 AM
It's a straight up coup. Overwhelming changes in a short period of time in the hope that by the time resistance gets organized it will be too late. Democratic leadership is still in the 'lets wait two years until midterms' mode - but Trump's goal is to invalidate that option.

The establishment of DOGE is illegal. The EO claimed it was a 'restructuring' of an existing agency, the USDS, but since there's no overlap of function that's a dodge at best. Regardless, financial oversight is province of the Legislative branch so even the concept of the department is overreach.

We did not close the door. They did. If they want it open, they need to do more than just realize their mistake - they need to work with the rest of us to make it right. I'm all for redemption arcs, but it needs to be earned.

I'm not going to say that bad people can't have good qualities, but anyone who voted for Trump did something that will harm tens of thousands of people. Ignorance isn't an excuse for murder, I don't consider it an excuse for voting for Trump. And if someone knew better and voted anyways?
January 31, 2025 at 10:47 PM
National agencies are normally created as acts of Congress, so Trump using an executive order to establish DOGE is dodgy at best. Appointing Musk as head without a Congressional hearing is straight out unconstitutional.

If there's ever been a case for a real-life deal with the devil. The disparity between his success and his competency really begs for a supernatural explanation.

And you don't know who the toddler is going to shoot next. Is it you? One of the other innocents tied up in the room? One of the people who tied you up?
